Why Isn't Bloomberg Pushing For Hammer Control?

From May 14, 2015 New York Times:
A hammer-wielding man wanted in connection with a series of attacks in Manhattan was shot by a New York City police officer on Wednesday morning on a busy Midtown street, the police commissioner, William J. Bratton, said.

The man, whom two police officials identified as David Baril, 30, was taken to Bellevue Medical Center and was in critical condition. Speaking at a news conference at the scene, on 37th Street and Eighth Avenue, Mr. Bratton said Mr. Baril fit the description of an attacker who struck four people with a hammer around Union Square and Midtown on Monday.

On Wednesday, Mr. Bratton said, two uniformed officers in Midtown Manhattan were on patrol when they saw the man and believed him to be the suspect in the earlier attacks. The officers, one man and one woman, followed him from 38th Street along Eighth Avenue. As they approached 37th Street, the man turned, pulled a hammer and attempted to strike the female officer, officials said.
